Russian Wedding Ceremony

Each nationality has its own wedding customs and traditions. Russian custom is really differs from other, how? How people marry in Russia, now you will know. The couple usually plans a wedding ceremony long before. They save money or parents help with the money, if the couple is young. Usually Russian people marry early when they are 18-25. And give birth to kids also quite early, compare to other countries like US, Canada or Europe. As in many other countries Russian Brides wear white, long, beautiful wedding dress and a groom wears a nice suit. A Bride holds a small flower bouquet.  Russian wedding ceremony consists of two days. There are two wedding days. Each day has its schedule and special things to do.  Usually the weddings are big. All relatives and friends are invited. A groom has got a helper calls “Svidetel” (witness) and a Bride has got a “Svidetelnitsa” (witness). They usually help to the groom and to the bride at the stage of different competitions. They also prepare the schedule for the wedding and recreations for the guests and relatives.  Day First. A groom with his group arrive to the Bride’s house on the cars and while approaching to the house they start to give the cars’ beeps, so everybody could know that the wedding is happening here.  The Bride’s witness meets the groom and his helpers with the tasks for the groom. The tasks are easy, witness is asking a groom when he met his bride at first time, when she was born or other questions. If the groom doesn’t know the answer his helper should help him, if he can not help, then the groom should pay some amount of money.  After the groom answers all questions and did the tasks he gets into the Bride’s house and take her to the ZAGS (state bureau of marriage registration), official place for registrations. All relatives and friends drive after the bride’s and groom’s car. Usually they follow as a cortege and beeps during the way. So the other cars would let them go all together. After they arrive in the ZAGS they give each other wedding rings, receive the marriage certificate and receive the congratulations from the relatives and friends. After that all go to the café or restaurant to celebrate this event.  In the restaurant the witness’ offers the game tasks to the relatives and couple. Everyone makes speech and give presents. In a few hours couple is going home and the guests stay as long as they wish.  Day Second. On the second day the Bride is not wearing a white dress. Invited guests arrive to the same restaurant and continue celebrating, making speeches, play the games, dance and drink champagne. The Second day is just for enjoying one more day of celebrating.  |
